Moving to Stack Overflow

We’re moving all 3rd party development related questions from our forum to Stack Overflow.

Forum has served us well for a while, serving our users and us as a good place where to discuss features, help out developers with their problems, announce API changes etc. However, it has played its part and deserves a dignified funeral as we move on to better platforms.

So as of now we are moving all 3rd party developer topics over to Stack Overflow, probably the largest development related discussion site in the known universe. This is where most developers go anyway so using that as our new “home” makes a lot of sense. Most things regarding 3rd party development and integration to your site can be asked there.
All other support questions, since they may contain delicate information, is to be directed to our support team.

At the same time our development team will start posting in our blog on relevant 3rd party issues, things like changes to the API, some common problems when trying to get your code to work with Flattr and more.

Head over to Stack Overflow, ask your Flattr related questions there (make sure you tag them with “flattr”) and we’ll be there in a jiffy answering stuff.

is there a recommended way to have multiple flattr accounts/"personas"?

The things is that I stroll the internet with a plethora of different pseudonyms and nicknames, carefully detached from each other. I would like to open flattr accounts for some of them, but is this actually allowed, or do I have to tie everything to a single account?

Of course, opening several different flattr accounts under different names comes with a few limitations (separate balances), but I can live with that. That said, I have no problem with flattr being able to link my pseudonyms if I gain a little convenience with that; I trust you guys, so much in fact that I'm asking before just creating different accounts. :-)

somewhat akin to the "unclaimed thing", i was thinking... since i became completely broke, with no income, living of the charity of others, i've not had the money to top up my flattr account....

now if my understanding is correct, this means people cannot flattr me.

i can appreciate you dont really want people abusing the generosity of a system that would gladly pay those who dont pay in... however, how about some compromise, so it's not a completely compassionless system... how about permitting an I.O.U. system, whereby you can, while not having the money to pay in, keep the 2euros per month debt stack up, and still recieve flattrs, held on your account until the debt has been payed. this way, it doesnt completely shut down you flattr functionality. good for the poor, and good for flattr (because who wants to use flattr for the first time only to discover it doesnt work just because whoever made the thing, is flat broke).

i hope i've illustrated my idea well enough. it does seem more in keeping with the whole idea of FLATtr, than a system that ensures the poor stay poor.

this idea made sense to me, and then made all the more sense once i saw this new "unclaimed thing" feature. people not on flattr can get flattr'd, but people who are, but are broke, cant? it just didnt seem right.

'twould certainly be welcome for folks like me, with VERY intermittant and unpredictable incomes. ...it's not like i could just create loads new highly flattr'able things to dig myself out of povety, if no one can flattr my things.

Hello,

I did a mistake and published a post on my blog with a bad URL. I changed that this morning but the bad URL has already been flatterd twice. ( see https://flattr.com/thing/359753/Quel-twitteur-es-tu )

Is that possible? How can I do that?

FlattrLib - .NET Library

Hi,

I just wanted to see if there was anyone who were interested in an all-out FlattrLib for .NET.

So I don't start building anything that no-one will use.

But I thought it would be a nice thing to have, so you can implement Flattr in your desktop applications, web applications, and so on.

As an author self-publishing on the Kindle, at very low prices, I had the idea to include a Flattr link in the back of the book in case somebody wanted to show a little more support than the 99 cent (or whatever) purchase price. Low-cost print editions could have a QR Code printed in the back.

I brought this up as a topic of discussion among other indie authors, so hopefully this will help bring more people over to Flattr to check it out and maybe set up accounts.

When linking to other people's content, you might want to include their Flattr buttons.

Would be nice if the button builder was available not only on your own Things.

So, the new design, some people like it, some people don't - what's sure is that if you spent your time carefully aligning the Flattr buttons in your layout, everything may appear unaligned again now.

Luckily there's a trick that lets you change their size. Some theory first: any standard Flattr button displays through an tag, and adapts its size to the size of the iframe itself. So, if we change the size of the iframe, we change the size of the Flattr button.

Since Flattr's tags come with a 'class="FlattrButton"' property, all we need is to put some CSS style in our html code, for example this:

If we want to change the size of a single Flattr button, first thing to do is to enclose the code for the button itself between

Ability to flattr any PayPal account

A lot of sites on the Internet accept PayPal donations.

It would be nice if there was a way to flattr a PayPal account.

This would be similar to an Unclaimed Thing, in that the owner does not (yet) need to be Flattr member, but it would not be a pending click, but it would be included in the monthly payouts.

Once a certain threshold (maybe 10 Euro) is reached, Flattr would send the payment out via PayPal.
The owner can later claim this, and turn it into a regular Flattr thing.
(Ideally, someone would notify the owner of this in advance, just like with Unclaimed Things, so that he can join Flattr and claim the PayPal account even before that)

Campaign to get content creators to sign up to Flattr (community driven)

Hi all,

I really like Flattr and it's such a shame that so many content creators don't use it. The "Flattr a Twitter User" feature definitely helps but it seems to be so unfocused. So what I was thinking is why not create campaigns using this feature to target popular content creators. All we need to do is pick someone and then have a drive to flattr them until they join, or until they put the flattr button on their site. What do you guys think ? Any proposals for a first content creator we should target ? I like The Guild so Felicia Day would be my first pick.

There is a bug with monthly amount - sometimes when I log in monthly amount is €0,05 (it's the true value), sometimes - €2.

Shorter and permanent links to Unclaimed Things

I'd like to link to Unclaimed Things, but the URL is super-long, non-descript, and looks like it will change once the item is claimed:

Unless I am missing something, there is no other way to link to the Thing.

Since those are all twitter ids (and hence have a unique short name), can we have a URL like https://flattr.com/@podkost or https://flattr.com/tw/podkost ?

Most importantly, these URL should continue to work after the Thing was claimed (going to the "User on Twitter" page).

Subscriptions going to the wrong user

When I use the flattr button to subscribe a thing, and hover on the duration links, I get links to https://flattr.com/subscription/register/id/1/months/3 , which is for Nakna Sanningen by user magnus.

I suspect something breaks the page's javascript and the id 1 ends up chosen by default, but I'd rather have an error message than an incorrect subscription.

Wordpress Plugin: User Based Flattr Buttons Philosophy

I'm currently enabling the Wordpress Flattr button plugin to create buttons on a "per user"-base. That means that a Wordpress blog operator can enable it's blog writer to create their own wordpress buttons on their very own posts.

I've got the coding done but their is one single question left about the plugins behaviour:

If an admin enables this feature for an existing blog, what to do with the old posts that may have generated flattr things?

The concern is that the plugin will definitely generate a different flattr button for all existing posts which would result in different things but with the same URL.

My first approach was to enable this feature only for posts that have been created AFTER the option for "per user"-buttons has been enabled... This would solve the conflict of duplicate buttons but won't credit the authors for their "old content".

Any idea?

Internet Explorer Bug with load.js

I'm building an iPhone app and I'd like to integrate Flattr into it. Before I start writing my own code (and perhaps reinvent the wheel), I'd like to know whether someone else has already built an iPhone Flattr library or something. Maybe a ShareKit add-on class would be awesome (actually that's what I was planning to do).

Hello all Flattr users!

I started my eSports blog some weeks ago and I of cause uses Flattr on it. But my question is, are there any other eSports sites our there that uses Flattr and have succeeded? I have not seen any so far (I'm only visiting StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 sites ;P).

Would be awesome to find out if any sites uses it to support them!

Flattr button not showing with IE - workaround possible?

Hello, I'm new to Flattr and was trying to integrate the Flattr button to my website today. All browsers but the Internet Explorer 9 show the counter button as it should be. I googled for a while, found some people with the same problem, but no solution yet.

Is there a real solution?

Or a workaround, which would make it possible to show the counter button on all non-IE browsers and the static image link ("Flattr this!") only with IE?
